General rules that travel well

• Read the post and the comment thread before you reply.
• Add one useful point and a clear next step.
• Keep it short. Edit out filler and check facts.
• Do not paste the same reply across posts. Tailor each one.

X: short and timely

Speed matters on X and replies are short. Aim for one or two lines, about 30 to 60 words. Put the point first. Tag only when needed and avoid hashtag stacks in replies.

Thread context moves fast, so check the latest posts in the thread before you reply. If the conversation has shifted, answer the current turn. Avoid repeating the original post and do not post the same reply under multiple posts.

LinkedIn: professional and concrete

Replies on LinkedIn can be a bit longer and benefit from a concrete example. Two to four sentences works well. Share how you applied the idea, a result you saw or a question about how the author handled a detail.

Tone stays professional. Avoid slang, avoid overly casual jokes and avoid tagging people who are not part of the thread. If you share a link, add a line about what the reader will get from it.

Reddit: context and community rules

Each subreddit sets its own rules. Read the sidebar and pinned posts before you reply. Many communities value direct, helpful replies over promotion. Make your affiliation clear when relevant.

Add detail that fits the community. Data, steps you tried and what failed are often valued more than general advice. Keep self promotion low and only when the question asks for a tool. Answer the question first, mention your tool second if it helps.

Threads and Bluesky: conversational

Both feel closer to X but with a more conversational thread. Replies can be a little warmer and a touch longer than on X, but still short. Focus on being helpful and easy to respond to.

On Bluesky, people often expect clear handles and quoted context. Reference the point you answer so readers who join late can follow. On Threads, keep threading clean and avoid long multi-part replies when one concise reply will do.

How to adapt quickly

Write the core reply once, then adjust. Shorten for X, add a short example for LinkedIn, and check community rules for Reddit. Keep the same first sentence when you can, then edit the rest.
